There's no public Windows 12 beta yet, but the infrastructure that will deliver it already exists — and you can join it today.

Step 1: Enroll Now

The Windows Insider Program is free and ongoing. Enroll via Settings → Windows Update → Windows Insider Program. You don't need to wait for an announcement.

The Four Channels

Canary: Most experimental — earliest Hudson Valley build strings reportedly already here.
Dev Channel: More stable, where Windows 12 will likely first become broadly testable.
Beta Channel: Polished, close to final.
Release Preview: Final pre-release stage.

What to Expect

Based on the Windows 10-to-11 transition, expect Windows 12 to first appear as an opt-in toggle within Canary or Dev, not a separate installer.

Hardware Considerations

Test AI features only on Copilot+ hardware (40+ TOPS NPU); core OS testing works on any Windows 11-compatible PC. Avoid your primary daily-use machine.
