Here's the plain-English version of what Windows 12 will require.

The Two-Tier System, Simplified

"Will it install?" and "Will the AI features work?" have different answers — even older PCs usually get the OS, just without AI extras.

For Basic Install

RAM: 8GB minimum — think of it as your desk size while working.
Storage: 64GB minimum, budget 128GB+.
Graphics chip: Needs "WDDM 3.0" support — most chips from 2020+ qualify.
TPM 2.0: Most PCs since 2016 already have this.

For AI Features

You need an NPU chip rated 40+ TOPS — meaning a "Copilot+ PC," which has only existed since mid-2024. Even powerful 2023 gaming PCs likely lack this chip.

How to Check Your PC

Search your exact PC model plus "Copilot+ PC" to confirm certification.

Bottom Line

Most PCs from the last 4-5 years install Windows 12 fine; only "Copilot+ PCs" since mid-2024 get full AI features.
